In 2010, I spent a lot of time with a good friend, Craig Dunham. Craig had ALS. It's an awful disease and robs you slowly of all muscle movement, so Craig lost his ability to move or speak. Despite all this, he still found ways to communicate, to smile, and to live in the best way he could until he was unable to swallow. His faith was strong and he didn't fear death.
His example of faith and perseverance has inspired me to live a full life myself. I lead an annual Walk to Defeat ALS dressed as the fictional super-hero: Super Carpe Diem Woman and the motto I'm known for is "Carpe Diem" or Seize the Day. I especially like that CD are the same initials as Craig Dunham.
My Facebook page has a picture of me as Super Carpe Diem Woman and for my 60th birthday, February 26, 2020, my kids gifted me with a special Carpe Diem Day in the National Archives.
