    "Dreams" by Langston Hughes

    in Poetry

    Hold fast to dreams

    For if dreams die

    Life is a broken-winged bird

    That cannot fly.

    Hold fast to dreams

    For when dreams go

    Life is a barren field

    Frozen with snow.

I love it because it is short, to the point (like most of Hughes' work) and thought provoking. Hughes might not be well known beyond American shores (I don't know!) so if anyone is interested, please read up on him...

Thank you @Windy City Girl for this wonderful piece of poetry.

Hughes was born in 1902 in Joplin, Missouri, USA. He was considered different as his poetry spoke directly to African American people. His works are direct, outward and simple to read and understand.
