Women supporting women!

I subscribe to a variety of uplifting blogs and newsletters. Every morning, I read through these and start my day in a good mood. This morning I read this article from Happify about women supporting women using mastermind groups.

The article described the excitement Miss Nigeria had for her friend in this competition, where she beat her in winning the Miss World title.

It's hard not to smile when you see that kind of support. I wanted to post something about it on this network because, that's exactly what QVWoman provides - a group of women who support one another!

Another fun tidbit from this morning's perusal of things that made me smile was this video from Growing Bolder about a spunky 100-year-old, Dorothy Turner Johnson. I loved listening to her story and seeing how intelligent and articulate she was, even at age 100. What an inspiration! (When I wen…

This is a wonderful post @Yvette Francino, loved the video of Dorothy Turner Johnson. Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks age is a disadvantage.

And thank you @Windy City Girl for your kind words. It is a lot of hard work to bring in diverse voices. And convincing people to write / share their expertise is another thing altogether.

I would love to take this bigger and it is on my mind all the time, but making a leap into the realm of sponsorship and more would mean commitment of a different kind...but one of these days, surely!!

Women have been at a disadvantage in getting medical treatments, according to this article

A friend of mine passed along an article that highlighted some big ways in which medical treatments have been tested on men, with the assumption that gender wouldn't matter. In fact, it's been found, that women have responded differently. In some cases, this discrepancy has been a matter of life and death.

"What we're telling women is, every time you go to the doctor, ask, 'Has this treatment or drug been tested on women?'"

"Historically, women's health was dubbed "bikini medicine," because medical professionals acted as though the only thing that set women apart were those body parts that could be covered with a bikini.".....(an excerpt from the article)..... is this for real??

The day people (including women) can look at women as individuals, as humans and NOT associate any ill-gotten preconceived bias we can say the healing process has begun.

And they say women are not compartmentalized and biased and mix up issues- when a woman has a problem that cannot be immediately diagnosed, it is invariably dubbed psyche related, making her to be some drama queen, or someone who cannot handle things. And this unkind notion is perpetuated by other women too, which hurts the most. In the name of being fair, women in positions of power and decision making are just as un-understanding as their male counterparts because they are more worried about how they will be judged!

It is a vicious circle.

Thank you for bringing this to my notice. I must bookmark this post!

What do you think of New Year's Resolutions?

Personally, I love them! I'm always so motivated on January first, especially to eat more healthfully. I think a big reason for that is because I take a break from healthy eating during the last couple of weeks of the year, enjoying the holiday season, but after OD'ing on fatty foods and rich treats, I've had enough. I look forward to getting back to structure and discipline in January, and it's always a very productive month for me.

For the past few years, I've incorporated a lot of the habits I've picked up from my Agile training into goal setting, including working in small iterations, reflecting and adapting. These practices are meant to help with project management during uncertain times, so they're especially relevant these days both in our professional and personal lives.

One of my goals is to help pass along some of these Agile practices to others and…

Here is something interesting we found about New Year Resolutions. It is a set of poems compiled by poetryfoundation.org. Not all pertain directly to New Year resolutions, but to new beginnings and pertain to that theme. Here is the link.

Hello, how do we define intellectual?

Hello, I just signed up on this website, it looks very interesting.

I love the simple idea of this platform, to share articles and books and generally raise our intellectual levels (Love the intellectual lounge btw. That is how I found the website, I was searching for interesting lounge chairs and this also popped up way down on page 4 or 5!!!!)

I think anyone can be intellectual, whether they are a professor or a janitor. We all have things to share and many times, we are scared to do it with our own social groups because we fear they may think we are looking down on them. or that we are behaving way above our station, or way above our actual level...what is wrong with that tell me? To aspire to be bigger and better??

I think everyone can say something intelligent, everyone has something to share that others…

Yes well said @Windy City Girl . It appears our members are better at explaining who and what we are than we ourselves! Thanks much.

We are of the opinion that with groups, one can bring like-minded people together but also means we leave out those who just want to grab a read or get to know about new areas...for now we have kept it open so that everyone's curiosity is piqued and everyone can access and read everything, and DM everyone else using the chat option on the bottom right...

It also as @Windy City Girl points out, allows members to post on any topic without having to join specific groups. The topics you post on as members might have nothing to do with your profession, hobbies or interests, just something you read and wanted to share. It is also a way to develop new interests...

I think we've made our point!!
